Anti-Freeze:
Did you know that not all Land
Rovers/Range Rovers use the same anti-freeze? Yep, there are four
different kinds that go into different Rovers. It goes as follows:
BMW anti-freeze goes in 03-05
Range Rovers
Dexcool goes in Discovery 2,
1999-2002 Range Rovers and 2002-2005 Freelanders
Multi-cool goes into 1987-1998
Range Rovers, 1994-1999 Discovery Series I and Defenders
All the rest of the Land Rovers and
Range Rovers use Land Rover branded or OAT Texaco XLC-Red
Tires:
Did you know that tires have a maximum
weight rating as well as a speed rating:
Weight rating are designated on the
side wall by a two or three digit number followed by the letter
designating the speed rating (107Y). The higher the number, the more
weight the tire can support.
(Towing adds weight to the vehicle
also)
Land Rover/Range Rover vehicles are so
heavy that they require much higher weight ratings on the tires than
other vehicles. A tire that doesn't meet the minimum specifications
set forth by Land Rover have the possibility of a blow out because
the tires are not strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle.
That speed rating on tires is a
misnomer. It should actually be performance rating. The
performance rating is a letter designation, H, V, W Y, ZR, that
represents the amount of nylon in a tire. Nylon has a characteristic
different than most other materials in that it contracts when heated
up, instead of expanding. This causes the tire to be much more
stable at higher temperatures. You should never replace a
manufactures recommended performance rating with a lower performance
rated tire. This can cause instability and possible dangerous
situations as the tire was not designed for your vehicle. It's like
putting regular fuel in a car that requires premium. It may be okay
for a while but in the long run it can damage the engine.
So, make sure the tires you purchase
are the proper ones for the safety of you and your family!!!!
